Chrome Extension Privacy Policy
Read it Privacy Policy
Effective date: June 5, 2026
This privacy policy applies to the Read it Chrome extension and is available at https://play.im996.com/read-it-privacy.
Overview
Read it reads the current page aloud using Chrome text to speech. When you click the extension, it can collect readable text from the active page, choose a suitable voice, and play that text through Chrome's built-in text-to-speech system. The extension does not ask for account credentials, payment information, or broad browsing-history access.
Information Processed
The extension may process the following information to provide its features:
- Readable text and page title from the active tab when you choose to read a page aloud.
- Selected text from the active page, when text is selected and you start reading.
- Detected or declared page language used to choose a suitable text-to-speech voice.
- Extension preferences, including speech rate and voice preference.
- Temporary reading state, including reading status, page title, selected voice, language, chunk count, start time, and source tab id.
How Information Is Used
Information is used only to extract readable page text, detect or choose an appropriate speech language and voice, read content aloud, stop reading when the source tab changes or closes, and remember your speech settings.
Local Storage And Data Sharing
Read it stores preferences and temporary reading state locally using Chrome extension storage. The extension does not sell, rent, transfer, or share your data with third parties. It does not send page text, selected text, reading state, or preferences to im996.com or to any developer-operated server.
Speech playback is handled by Chrome's text-to-speech APIs and the voices available in your browser or operating system. If you use a remote text-to-speech voice provided by Chrome, Google, your operating system, or another installed voice provider, that voice provider may process text according to its own privacy terms.
Chrome Permissions
The extension requests these permissions:
- activeTab: lets the extension work with the current tab only after you interact with the extension.
- scripting: lets the extension collect readable visible text from the active page so it can be spoken aloud.
- storage: saves speech preferences and temporary reading state in Chrome extension storage.
- tts: lets the extension use Chrome's text-to-speech engine to read page text aloud.
Your Choices
You choose when to start reading a page by opening the extension and clicking the read button. You can stop playback from the extension popup. You can remove locally stored extension data by uninstalling the extension or clearing the extension's storage data from Chrome.
Changes To This Policy
This policy may be updated if the extension's features, permissions, or data practices change. The effective date above will be updated when material changes are made.
